What to Bring to Inpatient Treatment
St. Joseph’s has strict requirements regarding personal items. Please review the information below for a list of required items, allowable items, and inappropriate items.
Public transportation (bus and train) allows two bags per person maximum. Please pack with this allowance in mind.
Required Items to Bring:
Enough clothing for seven (7) full days including:
Underwear (no thongs), socks/stockings, bras,
Full collared shirts, full collared blouses, loose-fitting pants/jeans, dresses/skirts (below the knee)
Recreational clothing including sweatpants, sweatshirts, sneakers, shorts
Shower shoes (flip-flops)
Bathrobe and bedroom slippers
Coats, boots, hats, and gloves as appropriate for the season
Toiletries (must be alcohol-free & no aerosols except for shaving cream)
Toothpaste
Shampoo / conditioner
Deodorant
Shaving supplies or electric razor (no straight edge razors)
Lotion (scent-free only)
Hairdryer
Identifying Documents (if you have them)
Birth Certificate
Medicaid and/or Insurance Card
Social Security Card
Driver’s License
A form of payment for medications and co-pays
Personal Items You May Bring:
One (1) personal book for leisure reading
Makeup (foundation only)
Jewelry (watch, wedding band, a religious symbol on a necklace only)
Three (3) photos to display in your room (no frames)
DO NOT bring the following:
Note: Unfortunately, all items deemed inappropriate must be confiscated and mailed home at the owner’s expense, or will be disposed of.
We strongly encourage you to leave any and all valuables at home or with someone you trust as we are not responsible for maintaining or keeping your valuables safe
Arts, crafts, and hobbies at home (there are lots of activities you will be participating in while in treatment)
Radio, I-Pads, cell phones, phone cards, laptops, credit cards, etc.
Food, gum, candy bars, hard candy, etc.
Any products containing alcohol including, but not limited to colognes, perfumes, mouthwash, body spray, aftershave, etc.
Knives, scissors, straight-edge razor
Stuffed animals, pillows, blankets, rugs, towels, hangers
Nail polish, acrylic nails
Open-toed shoes, sleeveless shirts, t-shirts with inappropriate logos or sayings
Fur boots, UGGS, and over the knee boots
Heeled shoes or boots
Crocs or slides
Flat irons or curling irons
Leggings, jeggings, or skin-tight clothing
Vaping Pens (these will be immediately discarded upon admission)
Tobacco Policy
St. Joseph’s is a completely tobacco-free and smoke-free campus. Nicotine replacement therapies are available upon request after arrival.
Medication Policy
Do not bring any over-the-counter (OTC) medications with you.
Bring your prescription medications in their appropriately-labeled bottles.
A Medication Administration Record (MAR) is a mandatory requirement
